The Cruisers of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club head for Miami, March 18-20, 2005

ed by Gar and Anne Olson and Alfredo and Carmen Bentivoglio, 26 CRYC boats were scheduled to cruise down to the Miami Beach Marina.  The flu making the rounds forced several boats and their crews to take a pass, but those who went were treated to a weekend of the nicest weather South Florida can provide (while the newspapers featured pictures of frustrated motorists scraping fresh snow from their windshields in the northeast).

Friday's barbecue-on-the-dock featured the usual sumptuous "heavy hors d' oeuvres" supplemented by grilled burgers and hot dogs.  As it was Friday, some folks grilled salmon steaks.  Salads and veggies were provided by our hosts.  The beer, wine and liquor flowed freely.

Saturday was on our own.  Some groups hiked over to Miami's famed Lincoln Rd. to sample the local "south-beach" style, a dozen die-hard boaters went off in Joe Kern's 27' "dingy" and Roger Adams' inflatable.  The original destination was "Jimbo's" a funky watering hole on the other side of Virginia Key.  The place proved more "funky" than we'd bargained for and after a few cold beers (Joe Kern wouldn't touch anything not factory sealed) and some entertainment watching a pit bull being tossed into the water, swim to a ladder and haul itself out, the group decided to move on.  Charlie Wilson got a kick out of Rosemarie Birman, sitting at a broken down picnic table, with the dogs underfoot, asking out loud whether there would be any waiter service?

We got back into the boats and headed for No Name harbor on Key Biscayne where we got a nice waiter-service lunch (though a bit late).

By time we got back to the docks at Miami Beach, and met up with the cruisers back from cruising the city streets, no one felt like making restaurant reservations.  So, the grills were fired up again and the barbecue lasted until 10 pm.

Wonder why this thing is having trouble getting up on plane?
