The Cruisers have just returned from the 10th annual Ocean Reef cruise. Joyce and Bob Epstein organized this fabulous cruise. How wonderful that so many non-boaters attended. There were over 30 boats and 125 people. I always say that cruisers are a state of mind and of course anyone who loves fun, with great people, is welcome to all of the cruisers dinners and cruises. The next dinner is March 20th, and you do need to make a reservation. Upcoming, we have the Biscayne Bay Anchor Out set for March 28-30th. Let’s pray for more good weather, which was in abundance at Ocean Reef. The Jantzs and the Wassermans are hosting the Anchor Out and they have some great plans. Do not hesitate to call them if you are interested. On April 11th through the 13th the cruisers head to Soverel Harbor with Lynda and Ron Smith leading the way. This is a great venue; call the Smiths if you want to cruise with them or motor up to a hotel and join the fun. Guess what! Cory Lachambre is organizing a Poker Run for all members on the 27th of April. This will begin and end at the Point Bar and Grille and, trust me, this will be a blast. Information on the Poker Run will be posted near the front desk as the time draws near. The Bimini Bay/Cat Cay cruise will depart on May 27th. We will stay in Bimini until the 29th then run over to Cat Cay until June 1. The cost is $125.00 per person. There are rental accommodations available in both places. You can fly to one or the other of the islands or maybe even hitch a ride. Just be sure that if you hitch a ride, the boat is coming back to Ft. Lauderdale, and not going on to cruise the islands for a few weeks. You don’t want to be a stowaway! LET'S GO CRUISING
Cynthia Kelly
Cruiser's Chairperson
Dear Cruisers, Hi! We’ve asked Cynthia to email this to you for us. The ‘us’ that this email is coming from is Tom and Lynne Jantz and Jeff and Barbara Wasserman. The four of us are so excited by the response to our anchor out at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club for the weekend of March 28-30. So far, 17 boats have signed up for the trip: 8 boats have chosen to anchor out, 7 would like dock space and 2 haven’t specified yet. We know we definitely have 3 spaces at the dock and possibly more but we won’t know how many more spaces until a week before the actual trip. Since the Key Biscayne Yacht Club is a reciprocating club, the first night’s dockage is free and the second night is $1.19 per foot. Electricity is $3 per day for 30 amp service and $8 per day for 50 amp service. We know that some of you are planning on arriving by car to join us for the weekend. Some nearby hotels at Coconut Grove include: Grand Bay, 305-858-9600 Friday night we’ve arranged to have a cocktail party at the Yacht Club with unlimited hot appetizers for an hour in addition to cheese, fruit, chips, salsa, and a mini assorted sandwich platter. The cocktail party including our own bartender (cash bar only) may be $25/pp or thereabout. The exact cost per person will depend upon our final head count. For dinner Friday night (if you are still hungry after our cocktail party), you can either eat onboard, make your own reservations at the yacht club (call 305-361-9171, ext. 116) or go to the many fine restaurants that are within walking distance from the yacht club. Some restaurants that have been recommended to us are: Italian - Vito’s Restaurant, 180 Crandon Blvd.,
305-365-2299 Saturday afternoon, you have many choices of how to spend your day: Relax at the pool at the yacht club … or just have an enjoyable time doing ‘whatever’ Because the Key Biscayne Yacht Club is having their Change of Command the same weekend we are there, dinner will not be available to us at the club on Saturday. Use the above restaurant info. There is a Sunday brunch at the KBYC, priced between $21.95-$23.95, depending on the menu. We have maps and brochures from Crandon Park, Key Biscayne and the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park for you to look at during the next Cruiser’s dinner which is March 20th. If you are planning on joining us for the cocktail party, please call or email one of us prior to the Cruiser’s dinner. As soon as we have an exact headcount, Tom and Lynne will be collecting the money for the cocktail party. We know that for those of you who only want dock space, we may have to wait for your response until a few days before the trip. Looking forward to a fun weekend! Cruisingly yours,
FYI
