10th Annual Cruise to Ocean
Reef
Sponsored by
Joyce & Bob Epstein
This cruise is always one of our
favorites, and this year it was particularly memorable as it was our 10th,
and was attended by 30 of our fleet’s boats with 127 members and their
guests. Joyce did her usual knockout-incredible job, and we had a
rollicking great time.
Commodore Roger
Adams and the lovely Commodorable Gerry aboard the “Adams Family,” Fleet
Captain Phil Chinnock and his wife Cynthia, chair of the Cruisers,
aboard “Gransea’s,” Fleet Measurer Ron Smith and his wife Lynda aboard
“Giddy Up,” Gov. Peter & Mary Kay Auerbach aboard “Sew Easy,” Gov. Ron &
Ruth Roman and Gov. Bill and Linda Grassmuck were among the
“dignitaries” attending.
Our wonderful
sponsors, the Epsteins, arrived at Ocean Reef on Thursday to make sure
all was in order and prepared for our arrival. The Adams and the
Chinnocks, with guests, Carol & Bill Stack, rafted up in Lake Sylvia
Thursday night, after a looooong board meeting, and headed to Ocean Reef
early Friday morning. Charlie and Carole Sammarco spent Friday night at
the Key Biscayne Yacht Club and joined the group on Saturday morning.
Most of us were there
Friday and the festivities began with our “Docktail” Party, but this one
was quite special: a lovely setting, on the beach, with tables and
chairs, and great music. We were truly blessed to have Joyce and Bob
share this slice of paradise with us. Thank you so much.
Saturday morning we
all gathered above the Dockmaster’s office for the start of a “Poker
Walk.” We collected our first card here and then charged off to three
different card collection destinations before arriving at the pool-bar
for our fifth and final card. This was a very appropriate spot, as
everyone was ready for libation and lunch.
At 2:00 pm,
Commodore Roger and Gerry Adams christened their new boat, “Adams
Family” and served champagne to all who attended the christening. Sandy
& Forrest Roberts were guests aboard “Blaze,” another new Hampton yacht,
also christened by her owners, Bob & Laurie Kennedy. More champagne!
Eventually all made
their way back to their boats or hotel rooms to prepare for the
incredible 6:30 pm cocktail party at poolside, hosted by Ocean Reef.
Joyce orchestrated this, of course, and Ocean Reef out did itself. The
appetizers were outstanding and very plentiful, and the wine flowed
freely. After this sumptuous feast, many passed on dinner, others took
advantage of the fine restaurants at Ocean Reef, and some chose to dine
aboard their boats with friends.
On
Sunday morning, Ocean Reef had a fabulous brunch, which was well
attended by the Cruisers. This was probably a 5-pound weekend!
Plantation Harbor
was the next stop for the Epsteins, Werchowskys, Adams, Smiths and
Sammarcos. Others headed for home. At this writing there are still a
few boats trickling back to their homeport.
Did we have fun!
Look at the photos and judge for yourself. Do we owe Joyce & Bob huge
THANKS? Indeed we do!
