Downloading Adobe Acrobat Instructions Paul Birman
Downloading Adobe Acrobat is simply a matter of going to their site: Depending on your selection, Adobe picks the version of the Acrobat reader that is appropriate. For English, Windows 98, version 5.05 of Acrobat was offered. It is 8.6mB, a fairly big file so slow connections will have to wait it out. After clicking on the "download" button, a dialog box will open asking what you wish to do (open it or save to disk). Select save to disk and tell Adobe where. I have a folder called "downloads" where I keep stuff like that. Once copied onto the user's machine, Acrobat will install itself. After it is installed it is invisible, and will automatically open whenever the user tries to open a document in pdf (portable document format. Once open, you can scroll zoom and otherwise navigate around the document in a fairly intuitive way and can print. Note that since the calendar is printed on 11X17 inch paper, it will be pretty small if you try to squeeze it into a 8.5X11" sheet. Better to print on two sheets or just enlarge and look at it on the screen. It allows clean copies of original documents to be transferred across computer platforms. The Captains' Club weekly newsletter, Squall Lines is also posted in pdf format and may be printed out at home (if color!) by using the pdf reader. Links to the back issues of Squall Lines are on the Activities page. |
